I've made shorts for years myself, only because it's damn near impossible to find people reliable enough to stick with a project that takes more than one day to shoot. I still hope to make a 60-70 minute long feature before I croak. Look at Corman's best '50s films, and most are under 70 minutes in length!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4886178587257453022.post-52803615603057660332013-11-10T09:56:58.807-05:002013-11-10T09:56:58.807-05:00QUOTE: "condescension toward those who prefer...QUOTE: "condescension toward those who prefer to make shorts instead of (usually over-long) feature films"

Yes, a lot of people don't consider folks that make short films, as "real filmmakers". I also think it's much harder to tell a story when you only have twenty-five minutes or less.

QUOTE: "If a film runs past 75 or 80 minutes, it had better be damned interesting or I'm out the door or hit the off button"

Far too many filmmakers don't seem to understand, that your main job is to entertain, NOT preach.

QUOTE: "picking up a lot of old '50s sci-fi pulps"

I'd love to find some CHEAP vintage pulps / men's adventure magazines. Unfortunately, the flea-markets and garage sales in my area only seem to specialize in USED UNDERWEAR. Meanwhile, the hipster-doofus shops that sell vintage books, mags, vhs, beta, etc, slap a premium price on those types of items.P.I.https://www.blogger.com/profile/16422328915201017322noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4886178587257453022.post-52915779630999606832013-11-09T14:11:10.628-05:002013-11-09T14:11:10.628-05:00Agree completely with your statement about short s...Agree completely with your statement about short stories and short films. I've recently been on a sci-fi short story kick, picking up a lot of old '50s sci-fi pulps, and being reminded how great the writing was back then. As for short films, except for YouTube there are few ways to see any, as there's a kind-of condescension toward those who prefer to make shorts instead of (usually over-long) feature films. If a film runs past 75 or 80 minutes, it had better be damned interesting or I'm out the door or hit the off button. Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
