GOOD RIDDANCE 2016

Well, I couldn't wait till December... I'm feeling too 'wound-up' to stay quiet. So, I'm going to write my last post of 2016 now. I'm not sure at this point, if I will return.

LAND OF THE GIANTS.....

There was a time when imagination and originality in movies and tv shows were the rule, not the exception. Yes, remakes and sequels existed, but they were not as common as they are now.

When I was young, I remember watching a tv show called LAND OF THE GIANTS. I was instantly transported to their world every week, and I was more than happy to do so.

In late 2016, episodes started airing on ME TV.

The complete series was released on region one DVD by FOX. As I write this, it's out-of-print and selling for obscene prices.

I think there may have been some mass market paperbacks, but I'm not positive.

At least three model kits were released. The SNAKE kit was released by AURORA, and later reissued by POLAR LIGHTS. A small scale kit of the SPINDRIFT was released by MOEBIUS MODELS, and a bigger kit by POLAR LIGHTS.

Screengrabs from an episode of the BIG BANG THEORY ( November 2016 ).

SOME GUYS HAVE ALL THE LUCK.....

I needed some escapism and got it from this episode of the BIG BANG THEROY.

Kaley Cuoco's character gives Johnny Galecki's character a good spanking... A lucky man indeed.

Screengrab above is from Atom Egoyan's movie called EXOTICA...

EVERYBODY KNOWS.....

I love the sight of Mia Kirshner's character dancing to Leonard Cohen's song EVERYBODY KNOWS. She does this in a movie called EXOTICA.

EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED.....

They've changed things forever, and we will NOT forgive or forget what they've done to us.

QUOTES BELOW BY JOHN OLIVER ( NOV. 13, 2016 ).....

"It is going to be too easy for things to start feeling normal. Especially if you are someone who is not directly impacted by his actions. So, keep reminding yourself, this is not normal. Write it on a post-it-note and stick it on your refrigerator, hire a skywriter once a month, tattoo it on your arse, because a KLAN BACKED MISOGYNIST INTERNET TROLL is going to be delivering the next state of the union address and that is NOT normal. It is FUCKED UP!... And the only thing that gives me one degree of comfort, is that I think part of trump might be realizing that now too"

Being a BIGOT is now socially acceptable. There is NO justification for allowing that ABOMINATION to take office.

Abraham Lincoln is spinning in his grave. And Edward R. Murrow is also spinning in his grave. Why?... Because with few exceptions, journalism is now DEAD in our country and most of the world.

We need to KEEP FIGHTING!

"The future hasn't been written yet"

They've stolen our votes, but NOT our voices.....

  1. Anon checking in again, still in standby mode on the film. It's a pain trying to cast this micro-budget opus, as most people are zombies immersed in their videogames, texting, or Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Snapchat/Whatever. Anyway, that's my whine. Yeah, that fascist a-hole Trump "won" and suddenly even watching some random Adam Sandler movies doesn't even suck as much as it should by comparison. Still, I'm hoping the Electoral College voters give us a happy surprise tomorrow, but I'm not holding my breath counting on it.

Ah, Land of the Giants. Actually a damned decent fun sci-fi show when compared to just about anything out there today. Deanna Lund was also in one of William Grefe's crappy-but-fun-but-dumb movies, I think it was STING OF DEATH.

Anyway, the political situation at this point transforms all of those junky '70s exploitation films into wonderful mental antidotes to having to think about the state of the world. To hell with the news, I'm watching SHANTY TRAMP today!

  2. Thanks for the comments.... I'm going to try and be back in early January.

I did not know she was in one of William Grefe's flicks.

I think most of the people in our country really need a mental vacation... Look at how much money the new STAR WARS flick has made in just one weekend.

Hope you finish your film and have a safe holiday.....

  3. Thanks, it was good, and I hope yours was excellent as well.

Aurora had a very nice SPINDRIFT model kit in the late '60s or very early '70s; I had a couple but they're long gone now...gave one carefully built and detailed specimen as a friendship offering to some jerk, who greedily yanked it out of my hands and vanished, never to be seen again. Learned a lesson about what a waste of time it is to hang out with self-absorbed "fanboys" there.

There was an equally cool Aurora model of the flying saucer from THE INVADERS (a *great* '60s sci-fi series created by THE Larry Cohen). Now THERE was a FANTASTIC TV series with a ton of amazing guest stars!

    1. I remember THE INVADERS.

There seemed to be a lot of cool sci-fi and horror shows on tv, during the 60s and on up to the early 80s.

ATLANTIS MODELS makes a kit of the INVADERS saucer. I'm NOT sure if it's based on the AURORA kit.... See link below.....

  4. Yep, that Atlantis model is 100% identical to the Aurora kit of the 1960s.
