MOVIES TV NETWORK vs THIS TV vs GET TV

To all the movie lovers in the United States.....

On Monday, May 27, a new FREE over-the-air movie channel will start broadcasting flicks in WIDEscreen.

I repeat, WIDEscreen!

The new channel is called MOVIES!

The previews I've seen, look great!

They've been showing clips from THE FRENCH CONNECTION, THE SEVEN-UPS, TAXI DRIVER, THE LORDS OF FLATBUSH, THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE, MARILYN MONROE MOVIES, and lots more!

I used to love THIS TV, but the countless mind-numbing commercials have taken their toll on me.

And more importantly, THIS TV only broadcasts butchered FULLscreen versions of movies... that really pisses me off!

THIS TV also airs far too many tv shows, and kid shows.

See links below.....

MOVIES!

THIS TV

GET TV ( LINK ADDED ON OCTOBER 8, 2013 )

UPDATED ON MAY 30, 2013.....

Well, it seems that ANOTHER FREE over-the-air MOVIE CHANNEL called GET TV, will premiere this fall!

GET TV allegedly has ties to SONY. It will supposedly focus on older movies.

I've been told, that in some markets, GET TV will air on UNIVISION owned sub-channels.

Last night, I recorded a RARE film that aired on MOVIES! TV NETWORK - which is allegedly connected to FOX. It's called THE SICILIAN CLAN, and it was shown in WIDEscreen.

Below are some screen-grabs from a DVD+RW I made.

Note, the total ABSENCE of a newtowrk logo in the corner!

I repeat NO logo!

The logo only materializes every so often, and then... POOF!, it DISAPPEARS!

It's FREE over-the-air TV, so there's going to be censorship... You can't have everything.

The station ID, also DISAPPEARS after a few seconds, and it only appears at the bottom of the screen. So when watching a WIDEscreen movie, it's NOT a bother!

Before every movie starts, they put the following disclaimer on screen - QUOTE: "This film has NOT been edited for time in order to fit in more commercials"

I guess someone at MOVIES! has been reading all of the complaints that have been posted on the internet.

Below are screen-grabs from a movie called THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN that aired on THIS TV.

Note the fucking logo that NEVER GOES AWAY, and the FULLscreen presentation.

They also plaster promo blurbs all over the screen!

And of course, the never ending stream of commercials that are guaranteed to cure your insomnia!

Films are butchered to FULLscreen, then butchered for content, and then butchered yet again - to squeeze in as many commercials as possible! Unfortunately, that's business as usual for most tv networks in the United States.

PARADE MAGAZINE: STEPHEN KING

Stephen King is on the cover of PARADE magazine ( May 26, 2013 ).

PARADE is actually a free newspaper supplement. It's included inside countless newspapers in the United States.

PARADE has been around for a long time.

I usually don't pay attention to it, but sometimes they'll put someone - or something - on the cover that I'm actually interested in. This is one of those times.

Inside this issue, you'll find four pages about Stephen King, JOYLAND, and summer time reading.

Plus, there's a full page photo of him ( holding a copy of his latest HARD CASE CRIME book JOYLAND and a few other books ).

The JOYLAND trade paperback goes on sale on JUNE 4.

The cover art is by Glen Orbik.

PUBLISHER - HARD CASE CRIME / TITAN
ISBN - 978-1-78116-264-4

JOYLAND is also available as a limited edition HARDcover ( several versions ).

The HARDcover version has front cover art by Robert McGinnis. The back cover is by Susan Hunt Yule.

Plus, there are NINE illustrations by Robert McGinnis inside the book.

VIDEODISC ADS

This post is about VIDEOdiscs ( NOT to be confused with LASERdiscs ).

Anyway, some of the VIDEOdisc fanatics I knew, were constantly pissed-off.

Why?... It seems they had the misfortune of purchasing faulty discs and players.

I also knew folks that had NO problems. These folks tried to convince me that VIDEOdiscs would become far more popular than VHS or BETA.

When they were functioning properly, they looked and sounded great.

VIDEOdiscs were roughly the same size as vinyl records, and took up the same amount of storage space. That was NOT good.

I HATED LPs, and I felt the same way about VIDEOdiscs, and LASERdiscs.

I was impressed by the video quality, and other things, but that couldn't convince me to abandon VHS.

Would you buy a VIDEODISC from this woman?.... I would...

MOVIE ADS: SEKA

This woman was incredibly popular when I was young.

Her movies drew big crowds at the local x-rated theaters, and her films were watched by tons of folks on cable channels.

Her VHS tapes were extremely popular and commanded top dollar.

I always had mixed feelings about her, but I never thought she deserved to be treated badly.

She wasn't hurting anyone.

She was an adult, and so were the folks she worked with.

Seka, before she walks off the Morton Downey Jr show... As for Mr. Downey, I always considered him a hatemonger extraordinaire.....

I remember her movies being on VHS, but I don't remember the names of the companies that released them.

Seka's movies are available on region one DVD, from companies like, VIDEO-X-PIX, ALPHA BLUE ARCHIVES, CABALLERO, and others.

MOVIE ADS: THE UNSEEN

It's been a VERY long time since I've seen this movie. So I don't remember much about it.

Well, that's not entirely true, I do remember some cute naked chick, and Barbara Bach being in it.

THE UNSEEN was released on VHS in the United States ( can't remember which company ).

A region one DVD was sold by CODE RED ( 2 disc ).

I've been told, THE UNSEEN will be released on BLU-RAY by a company called SCORPION RELEASING, but I can NOT find any info on their official website.

FYI: I don't care about BLU-RAYs. I post this info for folks that DO care.

MOVIE ADS: LSD I HATE YOU!

MOVIE STAR AMERICAN STYLE OR LSD I HATE YOU! is a true LOST film.

I have not seen LSD I HATE YOU! since the early eighties. Back then, I had a BOOTLEG VHS tape. I had purchased it, at one of my local swap-meets ( held at a drive-in theater ).

I was so happy when I found the trailer on YOUTUBE.

The actress playing Marilyn is outstanding. She really does sound and look like her.

This movie is also known as, MOVIE STAR AMERICAN STYLE OR HOW I FELL IN LOVE WITH LSD.

I do NOT remember LSD I HATE YOU! ever being released on legit VHS, and it has NOT been released on region one DVD. In fact, I can't even find a grey-market disc of this flick.

DISASTER MOVIE ADS: EARTHQUAKE

As a kid, I had a lot of fun watching EARTHQUAKE. Which is somewhat ironic, since I was petrified of, and hated experiencing the real thing.

I like most of the cast, except for Ava Gardner - the less I say about her, the better.

As far as I'm concerned, the true stars of this flick, are George Kennedy, Marjoe Gortner, the voluptuous Victoria Principal, and the special effects.

A legit VHS was released by UNIVERSAL.

It's been released on region one DVD a couple of times ( by UNIVERSAL ).

A company called GOOD TIMES also released a region one DVD.

UNIVERSAL is releasing EARTHQUAKE on BLU-RAY.

DISASTER MOVIE ADS: TOWERING INFERNO

TOWERING INFERNO is one of the few "disaster" flicks that bored me.

As usual, there's a huge star-studded cast. Icons, like Steve McQueen ( 1930 – 1980 ), Paul Newman ( 1925 - 2008 ), and Fred Astaire ( 1899 – 1987 ) appear in this movie.

Paul Newman and Steve McQueen on top... Below, we have Fred Astaire and... Well, the less said about the other guy, the better... RUN FRED!!!!!, RUN!!!!!

TOWERING INFERNO was released on VHS by FOX.

It was released on region one DVD at least three times!.... As a solo disc, as a GREAT TWO DISC special edition, and as part of a CRAPPY double feature ( paired with a pile-of-shit called volcano ).

FOX has also released the movie on BLU-RAY.

MOVIE ADS: HUD

This is one of my favorite Paul Newman movies.

I still remember the first time I saw it.

Paul Newman ( 1925 – 2008 ), Patricia Neal ( 1926 – 2010 ), Brandon De Wilde ( 1942 – 1972 ), and Melvyn Douglas ( 1901 – 1981 ), all star in this 20th century western.

Yvette Vickers ( 1928 – 2010 ) also appears in this film.

HUD was released on both VHS, and region one DVD, by PARAMOUNT

MOVIE ADS: THE MISFITS

In my opinion, THE MISFITS is Marilyn's best movie ( in regards to acting ).

She looks absolutely adorable - and somewhat sad - in this motorized western.

THE MISFITS was released on VHS, and region one DVD, by MGM.

It has also been released on BLU-RAY by MGM.

MOVIE ADS: NIAGARA

This is one of my favorite Marilyn movies.

She looks really hot in this flick.

It's been released on VHS, and region one DVD, several times by FOX.

MOVIE ADS: ISABEL SARLI

This lady knew how to tease, and she was hotter than a barbecue in hell!

I remember having some of her movies on VHS, but I don't remember if they were legit.

There are also some grey-market DVDs out there.

MOVIE ADS: MARISOL

When I was a kid, I loved watching Marisol's movies.

Marisol in TOMBOLA ( AKA LOS ENREDOS DE MARISOL )

Marisol and Robert Conrad performing a duet.... From the movie called LA NUEVA CENICIENTA.

An adult Marisol showing off her cute posterior.... From the movie called EL TAXI DE LOS CONFLICTOS.

I don't remember if legit VHS tapes were released in the United States.

I had some grey-market tapes, but they broke a long time ago.

I can NOT find any legit region one DVDs.

RAY HARRYHAUSEN ( 1920 – 2013 )

When I was young, most kids did NOT know who directed their favorite movies. But, they DID know the names of the special-effects folks, and Ray Harryhausen's name was probably the most famous.

I still remember the first time I saw JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS, and how thrilled I was.

Ray Harryhausen's work was legendary, and he will be missed.....

Quotes from the LOS ANGELES TIMES.....

"Ray Harryhausen, special-effects legend, dies at 92"

"Ray Harryhausen pioneered stop-motion animation, creating classics such as 'The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms,' and 'The 7th Voyage of Sinbad.' Without his work, 'there never would have been a "Star Wars" or a "Jurassic Park,''' Steven Spielberg said"
