RELAXING, RAMBLINGS & GUILT-TRIPS.....

RECHARGING MY BATTERIES......

Most of us have enough bullshit to deal with on a daily basis, but in these incredibly intense and surreal times, it seems more important than ever, to take a mental vacation.

I used to visit local lakes, rivers, and streams to recharge my batteries. Unfortunately, a lot of others had the same idea. Then, assholes started showing-up. They'd proceed to assault everyone around them with heinous glass-shattering vibrations being vomited from their vehicle's stereo systems - that are usually worth more than their cars! Many of these ass-tards also throw their trash into the river. Threats get traded - with and without weapons - and it usually ends-up with the police appearing. It's a little difficult to enjoy nature under those circumstances.

If it wasn't for humor and entertainment, I truly believe most of us would go insane or have nervous breakdowns, or both.

One of the things that helps me calm my nerves is listening to a couple of radio programs that air on my local NPR station on Saturday and Sunday nights.

The shows are called ECHOES and HEARTS OF SPACE. Listening to these shows is like medicine to me. I put my headphones on and escape to another place. It doesn't always work, but more often than not, it does.

If you're familiar with TANGERINE DREAM, Klaus Schulze, and Patrick O'Hearn, then you know the type of music these shows play.

I almost always discover someone I've never heard of before. Alu and Miranda Lee Richards, are two examples, and now I can't get enough of them.

Screengrab from ANTIQUES ROADSHOW... I can't believe how many times marijuana was misspelled on 1930s and 1940s movie posters... It's ridiculous.

I WONDER HOW MUCH I'M WORTH....

Here's another thing that relaxes me, the PBS program ANTIQUES ROADSHOW.

I've been watching this program ever since the domestic edition first aired.

Some of my favorite roadshow subjects are, movie memorabilia, art, automotive memorabilia, posters, books, magazines, and other assorted items.

I really love this show. It makes me want to visit every flea-market, garage sale, and thrift store I can find.

MOVIES AND SHOWS ON HOME VIDEO.....

One of the most popular ways for most people to unwind, is to watch DVDs, BLU-RAYs, or even VHS tapes.

Screengrabs of Darlene Bennett... From the film OLGA'S GIRLS... She looks really relaxed with that joint in her mouth, doesn't she?

I love flicks from the twenties to the present.

I guess my favorite time frame is from 1965 to 1995.

I love almost all genres, especially, exploitation, noir/crime, action, and westerns from the sixties and seventies.

Screengrabs from the movie HARPER.

I also like some tv shows.

I usually get my videos from DOLLAR TREE, HAMILTON BOOK, WALMART, and hand-me-downs from family members. The lower the price the better!

"READING IS FUNDAMENTAL".....

Anyone remember RIF?... Anyway, reading is definitely a popular way to relax.

Novels really take me to another place, and I can't get enough of them, and yes, I also like non-fiction.

Magazines are also fun, but hardly ever as involving as books.

AMERICAN PASSENGER TRAINS AND LOCOMOTIVES ILLUSTRATED by Mark Wegman ( ISBN - 9780785831273 )

I found this hardcover at a store called OLLIE'S for only $6.99, it's got beautiful artwork and photos.

I got the UD TRUCKS book for free. It was sent all the way from Japan - along with some brochures and other items. I had written to them about six months earlier, and didn't think I was going to get a reply, let alone get all the things they sent me. I've been a gearhead most of my life, so I really love receiving things like this.

GUILT-TRIPS DON'T NEED RESERVATIONS.....

A while ago, I captured a screengrab of Ms. Cuoco, in which she's showing off her cleavage. I then proceeded to add the following caption, "the two most beautiful things about the big bang theory". I also added my blog's address.

Well, I deleted that screengrab soon after. Why?... Because I felt, I had done something stupid and disrespectful. Was I overreacting?... Maybe. All I know, is that I felt bad for doing it.

I'm going to take a break from this website for a while. I'll check-in as often as I can.....

  1. Good post, I have most of those Mill Creek/SWV DVDs too. And I love NPR, but those relaxing-sounding links are new to me, so I'll check them out.

Try to avoid the heat and stay hydrated as much as possible. Too hot here to even go outside in the middle of the night!

    Take care and THANKS!

  3. You too! Hope your summer is relaxing and fun, and full of great book, music, and movie finds!

PS: I'm on a Steckler kick again, same time as yours? I get a big smile from his films, and he was a hell of a nice guy (via email). Wish I could have gone to Vegas and met him...
