Thana is a mute seamstress that works in New York's garment district.

After work, she goes to a supermarket. Meanwhile, a burglar breaks into her apartment.

As Thana walks home, she's forced into an alley and raped at gun point.

When Thana finally arrives home, she finds the burglar waiting for her. The burglar is frustrated that he can't find any money or valuables. Then, he discovers Thana is mute. That only seems to make him even more irritated. He then proceeds to rape her.

During the rape, the burglar drops his gun. Thana quickly grabs a paperweight and hits him on the head. While he's on the ground in pain, she picks up an iron and bashes his head in.

She hides him in her bathtub. Thana knows she can't keep his dead body for long. So she chops him up, and puts the pieces into plastic trash bags. Then she puts the bags in the refrigerator.

Thana starts disposing of his body parts every chance she gets.

After having been raped twice in less than an hour, she becomes paranoid.

When a man tries to return a bag to her - unaware that it contains human remains - he becomes her first victim.

She blows him away ( in a NON-sexual way.. ha-ha ). From now on, Thana's gun is doing the talking for her.

The old Thana is dead, so the new Thana goes on a bloody rampage. She can't seem to stop killing. Soon the media is reporting that bodies are popping up all over town.

Thana has managed to turn herself into a bloodthirsty monster, that is far worse than the degenerates that hurt her....

"Thana" reminds me of "Travis Bickle" from TAXI DRIVER.

Zoe Tamerlis ( AKA Zoë Lund 1962–1999) is incredible in this role.

In my opinion, this is one of Abel Ferrara's best movies.

As far as I know, the only "region one" DVD was made by IMAGE ENTERTAINMENT ( it is now OUT OF PRINT ).

NOTE: The IMAGE ENTERTAINMENT DVD represents the CUT version of the movie.

FYI: This DVD sells for absurd prices on the secondary market.
