MARY HARTMAN! MARY HARTMAN!
Mary Hartman was a fictional housewife. She dealt with a lot of crap, and had a nervous breakdown, but managed to survive and move on.
Louise Lasser ( top ), Debralee Scott ( middle ), and Mary Kay Place ( bottom )
MARY HARTMAN MARY HARTMAN was forbidden fruit during the gritty 70s. It was NOT shown on a network, and most of the independent stations that DID air it, would only do so during late night hours.
I don't know if PAY TV would have been an option for this show, since cable was still young at that point.
It was one of the few tv shows I could identify with.
MARY HARTMAN was a combination night-time soap, family drama, and social satire.
This show ruffled A LOT of feathers!
It starred, Louise Lasser, Mary Kay Place, and Debralee Scott ( 1953 – 2005 ).
Tons of familiar faces appeared on this show.
MARY HARTMAN was ahead of it's time. It was also the exact opposite of shows like the BRADY BUNCH and LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE that came before it, and HIGHWAY TO HEAVEN that came after - these three shows were true OBSCENITIES.
The very cute Mary Kay Place ( I wanted to run away with her ).
Debralee Scott ( 1953 – 2005 )
My local tv station - in southern California - would air a bizarre version of local news immediately after MARY HARTMAN.
That news program was called METRONEWS METRONEWS. If I remember correctly, it pissed-off a lot of folks. It even pissed me off a couple of times.
I don't know if MARY HARTMAN was ever released on VHS.
SONY released a region one DVD, of season one, but I don't know if it's worth buying.

Loved MH MH and watched it every single night; the DVD set is only $12 on Amz at the moment, so I plan to order it later today. Had a crush on Debralee Scott for many years, BTW...
